Updated: Now includes photo of the honeymoon art!
I have a fair amount of art up on my walls for someone in their 20s and I'm
constantly on the lookout for new pieces. I think when I'm older I think my
house won't have a bare wall in sight. My favourite time to buy
art is on vacation. It gives the piece automatic history but can be hard to
get home sometimes.
When my husband and I were on our honeymoon in NYC we picked up 2 paintings
done by an artist we found there. I guess they're not actually paintings, they
are oxidized metal on canvas. They remain one of my favourite things in our
home. Every time I look at them I think about our amazing honeymoon and how fun
it was to meet the artist. He even gave us a tour of his studio when we told
him we were newlyweds. They weren't cheap, especially after framing, but it was
totally worth it.
Since it's not always practical to buy only originals, prints are the
obvious choice for adding art to your home. There are so many websites where you
can buy directly from the artist, which I love. Supporting the artist
directly gives you the same warm fuzzy feeling that buying an original does
without the hit to your wallet. Here are a few of my faves from Etsy:
- Abstract Landscape by Yangyang Pan
- O is for Owl by Rebekka Seale
- Iceberg by Tabitha Brown
- Glimpse by Yellena James
Last week I showed you one beautiful image the
Summer 2012 Ruche lookbook titled The Tuscan Sun, and I know you're dying to see
more. I've pulled together a few of my favourite images from the lookbook and
let me tell you, it was hard just picking a few. Ruche is one of the those stores
where I would literally wear anything and everything they sell. Hint, hint, to any
family members who read my blog and need gift ideas!
I would wear this gorgeous pleated dress every day of my life.
Sheer maxi skirt? I need this.
Yes...this is exactly what I look like while cooking. Maybe that apron will help
me be more careful with the tomato sauce.
