Updated: Now includes photo of the honeymoon art!

I have a fair amount of art up on my walls for someone in their 20s and I'm constantly on the lookout for new pieces. I think when I'm older I think my house won't have a bare wall in sight. My favourite time to buy art is on vacation. It gives the piece automatic history but can be hard to get home sometimes.

When my husband and I were on our honeymoon in NYC we picked up 2 paintings done by an artist we found there. I guess they're not actually paintings, they are oxidized metal on canvas. They remain one of my favourite things in our home. Every time I look at them I think about our amazing honeymoon and how fun it was to meet the artist. He even gave us a tour of his studio when we told him we were newlyweds. They weren't cheap, especially after framing, but it was totally worth it.

Since it's not always practical to buy only originals, prints are the obvious choice for adding art to your home. There are so many websites where you can buy directly from the artist, which I love. Supporting the artist directly gives you the same warm fuzzy feeling that buying an original does without the hit to your wallet. Here are a few of my faves from Etsy:
